Alex Moreau

It’s impossible to discuss Chassagne-Montrachet without mentioning the name Moreau. Alex Moreau – who has been running the legendary Domaine Bernard Moreau; belongs to the new generation of talented wine makers in the Cote d’Or, who went through formal studies and have experienced working in other wine regions around the world.  In 2021, Alex began to bottle wines under his own label assuming full control of the domaine, its winery, cellar, winemaking and vineyards. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet the roots of the domaine date back to 1809 when Auguste Moreau built its first cellar across from the Champs Gain vineyard and farmed his few hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot along the golden slope. Alex’s father, Bernard Moreau, took over the vineyards and cellar in the early 1960s. By 1977 the reputation of this great estate was fully established under the leadership of Bernard and Françoise Moreau.

Domaine Alex Moreau is the natural progression from storied Domaine Bernard Moreau, Alex’s father and rightfully venerated vigneron in Burgundy. Employing a style of wine making that might best be described as hands-off, the house produces Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that are sensual, opulent and utterly delicious.
