Domaine Faiveley Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Les Ouvrees Rodin Burgundy France, 2011, 750

Coming from a "Vieilles Vignes" parcel (60 years old), "Les Ouvrées Rodin" is characterised by its elegant tannins and delicate structure.
Edmée Sirieys, Erwan Faiveley's great grandmother, had family links with art amateur Maurice Fenaille. In 1885, the latter became Auguste Rodin's patron. In memory of the unique relationship with Auguste Rodin and as a hommage to the timeless works created by him, we named this new gem of the Côte de Nuits: "Les Ouvrées Rodin" Cellaring potential 20-25 years

"(from vines facing southeast, whereas the "regular" Clos de Beze is from south-facing vines; these vines are also a bit older: 55 years vs. 45): Good deep red. A coulis of red fruits sharpened by blood orange on the nose. Less reduced and more vibrant than the cuvee classique and utterly primary in the mouth, with pure fruit flavors framed and lifted by underlying minerality and perfectly integrated acidity. The explosive, highly perfumed finish features outstanding grip and punch and unflagging perfume..."

"Background notes of oak frame a highly expressive nose that offers up scents of violets, spice, freshly crushed raspberries and wet stone. This is bigger and more concentrated than the regular cuvée with exceptionally good richness on the naturally sweet medium full-bodied flavors that are utterly seductive. There is a highly beguiling opulence to the textured, indeed even silky mouth feel though the gorgeously long finish tightens up quickly as the ripe tannins are extremely firm. This has the potential to be genuinely great if you have the patience.
