Gerard Mugneret Bourgogne les Rouges Champs Burgundy France, 2018, 750

  • Etymology: Les Rouges Champs means "the Red Fields." Oddly though, the soils in Rouges Champs are not red (iron-rich) so the name must refer to something else than its geology.
  • Size: 0.23 ha (0.57 ac)
  • Variety: Pinot Noir
  • Vine Age: Planted in 1970
  • Terroir: Located just the other side of the D974 road at the southwestern corner of Clos Vougeot. Downslope from the Combe d’Orveau, on its alluvial fan, with light-colored soils and plenty of gravel.
  • Viticulture: Uncertified biodynamic
  • Vinification: 70% whole cluster, ambient yeast ferment, aged in oak barrels (25% new) for for 12 to 18 months. Since 2016, very moderate sulfur additions: none during vinification, a little during élevage and before bottling, for a total of 15 to 20 ppm.
